Samyak Veera -  Microsoft Word 2010 configuration process?

Hello,  My name is Samyak Veera from U.S.

I've had Microsoft Word 2010 for a while now, but recently the program has been acting "funny". Every time I open Word (or any other Microsoft Programs), a "Configuration Process" bar pops up. After the bar is finishes loading, it says that a computer reboot is necessary for the "installation". If I press "No", it exits out everything. If I press "Yes", my whole computer restarts. After the reboot, I try to open Word again, but the whole configuration process comes up again.

How do you fix these? I have been trying to uninstall and remove any kind of programs that may seem like "virus" to me. Is this caused by virus?

Thanks

Hi,

From your description, I suppose you got the alert message like " Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 2010." This issue might be caused by some factors. Thus, I recommend you try the following methods:

Method One:

Step 1:
Open Run (Press Windows key + R) copy and paste the following commands one at a time and then press ENTER. You may receive a prompt to click on the continue/allow button.

Ensure to back-up the registry using the steps givenhere before modification.
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Access\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Powerpoint\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Step 2 :
That is it. Office 2010 might want to have one more spin round the block with it's configuration dialog box, but that should be it.
C: \Program Files>Common Files>microsoft shared>OFFICE14>Office Setup Controller>SETUP.exe change to SETUPold.exe

Method Two:

Using Regedit to locate the key for .msg, when accessing Permissions, I got an error message, but ignored that.  Open the Permissions window, and click on the "Advanced" button.

Then select the "Owner" tab, and set the owner as "Adminstrators". Click Apply and OK.

Close Regedit, and Run Outlook, the Configuration process will run.  Then close Outlook.

Open Regedit again, and locate the same Classes/.msg key.  You should now see a number of sub keys.

For each sub key , right click on it to select Permissions.

Click on the "Advanced" button, and then the "Owner" tab, and set the owner as "Administrators", and click Apply and OK.

On the security tab, click on the Add button.  Add "SYSTEM" as a new user, and put a tick next to "Full Control".  Click Apply and OK, and you should then see other users added.

Repeat the above for all sub keys.

Close Regedit, and reboot.

Method Three:

Go to Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller

there rename setup.exe.

===

Method Four:

Right-clicked on Command Prompt, under Start Programs, Accessories, and Ran as Administrator, from the admin account.

Do following command:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

Hope they are helpful.
